Editor's Note: As Suicide Prevention Month draws to a close, we wanted to remind educators of the resources that are available year round, like this one from Missouri Partners in Prevention.
Missouri Ask Listen Refer: A Free Online Suicide Prevention Training Program
Missouri Ask Listen Refer is a free, online suicide prevention education program that focuses on teaching Missourians how to ASK if somebody is thinking about suicide, genuinely LISTEN to their thoughts and feelings, and REFER them to a professional. Additionally, participants are able to learn about warning signs, sample conversations, and local resources.
MO Ask Listen Refer is a great resources for school personnel, as educators are in a great position to intervene with youth. School personnel are in constant contact with young people, and suicide is the third leading cause of death for youth between the ages of 10 and 24. Learning to recognize and respond to the warning signs is important for educators.
Promotional items are available to help spread word about MO Ask Listen Refer. There are currently pens, post-it notes, mouse pads and brochures available to help promote the program in communities throughout Missouri. Order forms for these items can be found here and in our website moasklistenrefer.org.
The Missouri Ask Listen Refer training can be taken at moasklistenrefer.org. This program is anonymous, accessible 24 hours/day, and only takes 15 to 20 minutes to complete.
