After the Joplin tornado last year, MSTA members and staff wanted to help. In addition to volunteering with relief efforts, we wanted a mechanism to provide resources on a grander scale for Joplin and future Missouri disasters. As part of that initiative, last month, MSTA Field Coordinators, Mike Walsh and Jeff Stacy, with Member Services Director, David Bond, handed out t-shirts and vouchers to MSTA’s Bunker Hill retreat for anyone interested.
We wanted to give our MSTA members a chance to relax, Stacy said. They worked tirelessly and deserve the opportunity to have some time for themselves. It was a difficult year.
As we visited schools, we felt a bit like kings for a day, Walsh said.
Principal Robyn Mitchell at Stapleton announced to the whole school that MSTA would be coming to member's rooms and bringing gifts, he said. Eric, the Stapleton Custodian, escorted the MSTA Staff to every member's room, where they were met with smiles and big thanks.
"At Kelsey Norman, some of the members put their shirts on immediately and wore them the rest of the day," Walsh said. "Everyone loved the design."
If you are interested in ordering a Hope for Joplin t-shirt, please use this order form. All proceeds will go toward supporting Missouri Educators affected by catastrophic events, such as natural disasters.
