Just a note during MAP testing. . .

Think you have it rough during MAP testing?  Science teachers in a Texas middle school were threatened with their lives if scores did not meet the expectations of their principal.  After he vowed to kill them, the principal said, "You don't know how ruthless I can be."

I never felt this kind of pressure or stress when I was in the classroom, but I imagine it is getting worse every year. . .

I am astounded that any educator would say this -- even in jest. On the other hand, it's not surprising that high-stakes testing would lead to mental and emotional breakdowns in some people. I know it's important to hold schools accountable, but I think we all need to lighten up a bit.

Hmm...if the principal is that gung-ho about holding teachers accountable, maybe he should also include himself in that. as their supervisor. Will he be falling on his own sword if things aren't up to his standards?
